Ferran Adri



Ferran Adria, born 1962 in Barcelona, is perhaps the greatest chef of all time. “He is called the "Salvador Dali" of the kitchen by Gourmet Magazine, Ferran AdriĆ  is considered to be one of the best, if not the best, chef in Spain and quite possible the world,” author of Ferran Adria says. He began his career at the age of 18 being a dishwasher for a hotel. This hotel is where he was first introduced to cooking. A few years later (after he finished his military service) he worked and became head chef at restaurant El Bulli. There, he established his trademark where the restaurant closes for six months to allow research and elaboration on new creations. “He travelled to France to continue perfecting his particular culinary vision. In 1994 he created a new dish: mesestra de verduras en texturas (vegetable soup in textures). This was the beginning of a revolutionary movement in the kitchen, not just in Spain, but in the world” (don Quijote). In 2002 El Bulli was awarded Best Restaurant in the World and 4 more times after that. Ferran Adria continued to be one of the most influential people in the cooking game by writing many best sellers and having a college named after him.

Final Presentation



For my final assessment for this project I shall be creating a power point presentation on my experience learning how to cook. In the presentation I will explain what cooking is, why I choose to learn it, the disadvantages and advantages from cooking that I had faced along the way, and also some brief history on chicken since Georgia is the “poultry capital” of the world. After the history and writing, I will show how to make Orange Chicken w/ White Rice in a Pineapple Boat. By doing this presentation it will show you why I choose to learn how to cook, what I learned how to cook, some history on chicken, and also why other people should learn how to cook. This project should be evaluated off of presentation and content majority. I will try to present to the class my project but if not then its just going to have to be a private visual to my teacher.

Cooking In vs. Eating Out



Learning how to cook is beneficial in many ways. It make a person more dependable on themselves, manages weight, impresses other people, saves money, better to eat in, convenient, and it’s a fundamental skill worth learning. Out of all these positives, the most important one to me is it manages weight. According to Pujitha Reddy , author of the article Top 10 Reasons Why You Learn to Cook Today, “You will have complete control over what you eat at home so home cooking definitely helps to manage your weight. Learning to cook means to take control over your weight. You can stick to reasonable amounts of food so that you will not end up eating too much. You can improve your diet easily by cooking yourself healthy foods at home. It is a sure fact that calories consumed through homemade foods are obviously very low compared to the calories consumed through food you eat at restaurants or food from takeouts.” Comparing Eating out vs. Eating in, eating is better because “at a restaurant, you have almost no control over how most items are prepared and you are leaving your health and wellness in the hands of the chef in the back. At home, you control how much salt is being used, what fat you use to cook with, the quality of the food product and most of all, you’re in control of your health and wellness,” says Chef Dave Fouts and Vicki Bovee, MS, RD, LD

Getting Over the Hump

This is a picture of me getting over my tiny phobia of touching raw meat. It wasn’t hard at all. My grandma was going to teach me how to make a basic seasoned chicken. I told her I wanted to do everything by myself and she said okay. She told me all I had to do was open the packaged chicken, drain the blood from the breast, clean it off a season it. The thought of me doing this grossed me all the way out but I came to realization that it’s just food; it’s not going to bite or anything. I dived right in, getting into the crevasse of the meat, cleaning and cutting it. Surprisingly it wasn’t that hard at all. After all of that, the chicken came out great. For anyone out there who doesn’t like cooking just because of the touch and scent of meat, it is not that bad. You just have to tell yourself it’s just meat, nothing to dangerous and you have to think of the end result. After you get over your fear you will realize that you can do so much with cooking meat and make really good things, not only for you but for your family also.
